ORMAE

Optimal Vehicle Allocation to Depots

RETAIL AND E-COMMERCE

Mixed Integer Programming/heuristic techniques-driven vehicle scheduling.

About the customer

The client is one of the city's biggest car dealers with a reputation for prompt and efficient customer service. Its servicing depots, at various points in the city, take in vehicles for preventive maintenance.

Business Problem

The primary issue the client faced was scheduling the vehicles for servicing at its multiple depots while ensuring the load was distributed optimally. The client was in need of a solution that:

  • Optimally allocated the vehicles to one of the depots (factoring in the earliest/latest due date for preventive maintenance and depot capacity).
  • Ensured minimal idle time for vehicles at the depot.
  • Minimized deviation of preventive maintenance activity from the scheduled date.

Our Approach

ORMAE's optimization solution for the car dealer was developed using:

  • Math modelling, optimization and MIP/Heuristic techniques.
  • Tools such as Python, PulP, and CBC solver.

The Result

ORMAE's solution neatly fulfilled the requirements expected. They included:

  • Minimal idle time of vehicles at the depot.
  • Auto-scheduling of the vehicle’s preventive maintenance activity, one month in advance.
  • Easy revision of planned schedule.
  • Optimal utilization of resources.
  • Auto-scheduling of vehicles based on available slots at the client’s multiple depots.
