ORMAE Secured 2nd Runner-Up Position at the Shell Hackathon!

ORMAE is happy to share that we stood 2nd Runner-up in the Shell Hackathon, an event in which scores of companies compete to tackle the industry challenges being faced by Shell.  We worked on the problem of “Fleet Decarbonization – A Transition Problem in the Mobility Sector,” addressing the significant impact of delivery, and operational fleets on global greenhouse gas emissions. We attempted to strike a balance between environmental sustainability and operational efficiency,

During the hackathon, our team developed a prototype to align net-zero emissions with robust business performance. Utilizing advanced mathematical models and optimization techniques, our solution offers a holistic approach to fleet management that meets annual demand while adhering to carbon emission limits from 2023 to 2038.

Our tool analyzes detailed data on vehicle types, fuel consumption, operational ranges, and cost factors. By incorporating vehicles from three drivetrains—Diesel, LNG, and Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV)—we designed an optimal fleet composition that fulfills supply chain needs while minimizing costs and complying with stringent environmental standards.
It was an incredible experience to work on a project with the potential for significant real-world impact in reducing global greenhouse emissions. A huge shoutout to our team for their hard work and commitment.

The winners were announced at an event in Bangalore on 9th September.
